Recollecting.

List of altered state encounters, no particular order.

Injury date 30/07/2017.
Diagnosis- Post concussion syndrome, visual processing issues (pattern glare and light sensitivity), nerve damage  (upper spine area and ulnar and median nerves affecting left arm and hand) and psychological trauma.

I kept an injury journal and detailed various aspects which included 'states of mind'.
These were summarised after the first 5 months post head injury as:-
'Fantastical imagery' and as having a sense of 'only existing in the here and now'.

The here and now.
The body disappears, there is only sight, sound and feeling and the sense of knowing this. An awareness that there is awareness and the senses are what are making what can be seen, seen, heard, heard and felt, felt. It is internal, what is 'outside' is in fact inside and is timeless. There are no mind thoughts only awareness of the sight, sound and feeling.
This disconnect is apparent at the time and overwhelming after when there is a reconnect to the 'reality' that has been present until the experience occurred.

Neural networks are built up through exposure to the environment via the sensory system then processed and stored. You are the accumulation of your experiences, your neural networks. A brain injury damages or destroys many of these networks and by extension damages and destroys your experiences and ultimately affects you as a person. You are different as a person, the feeling that something is missing is strong and can be overwhelming. There is a saying in the brain injury world, "the mourning for the former self", it is a bereavement process. You feel the loss of a person that existed and is no longer here. The irony of this situation, the person is still present in physical form and is mourning the former self. The mourning is for the experiences and neural makeup that has been built up to create that former person. I...
